Project Details

The Angelus Mine, located within a greenstone belt, is geologically similar to other greenstone belts in Zimbabwe that have consistently been mined for gold and other precious and base metals over many years. These greenstone belts typically comprise volcanic and sedimentary successions similar in style to the gold-bearing greenstone belts in Canada, Australia, and elsewhere.

New Dawn Mining owns contiguous blocks of claims around the Turk Mine covering known mineralisation hosted within the Turk shear zone. The Angelus Mine, is located approximately 400m northeast of the Turk Mine and is connected to the Turk workings by underground access tunnels. Current exploration in the form of cross-cutting and diamond drilling is being systematically undertaken. This part of the planned 3-phase exploration program is specifically aimed at probing the lateral and down dip extensions of the gold lodes mined previously on shallower and deeper levels. Additionally, a geological exercise is being implemented to decipher the structural trends that accommodate the mineralised intersections. Correlation of the Turk lodes to those at Angelus is considered both important and relevant due to the fact that as development from the Turk progressed north and northeast, the principle lodes that were exploited were disrupted by a dolerite intrusion locally known as the "Cross Dyke".

The Angelus Mine has two established shafts, currently not in use, but the Angelus Mine is currently accessible from the Turk Mine workings. The re-equipping of the Angelus shafts, possibly with re-sizing, will depend on a positive outcome of the diamond drilling program and overall evaluation of the intersected gold lodes.

The Angelus Mine has been a historical gold producer that requires additional exploration from underground to assess the full potential of the property. A greater understanding and interpretation of the Reidel shear model identified in the Turk section is required to establish a systematic exploration method that may shed some light on the emplacement of the Angelus lodes and their potential. The exploration program presently underway is well laid out and on schedule. Recent drilling on 4 and 7 Level has indicated the presence of additional principle lodes (L1 to L7) and a striking similarity to the Turk lodes. Further drilling on 7, 10, and 12 Level will provide further clarification on lode morphology and determine the consistency of these lodes along strike and at depth where previous mining has occurred.

The Angelus property is regarded as an exploration project with the potential for additional resources to warrant a comprehensive feasibility study. The existence of extensive surface infrastructure (primarily a milling and metallurgical plant), coupled with studies undertaken by the management of Casmyn Mining Zimbabwe (Private) Limited - a subsidiary of New Dawn Mining Corp., has provided the justification for a limited mining and underground drilling program that will examine key parameters (ore resources and metallurgical attributes) for further exploration and development.
